What Walton actually covers
Walton in 2026 means several things at once. The traditional Walton Road residential strip running off Cantt. The Walton Cantt blocks on the inside. The ex-Walton Airfield land that was decommissioned in 2023 and is being redeveloped. The smaller Lalazar, Walton Heights, and Cavalry-side colonies that sit on the eastern edge. These have different ownership structures, different approvals, and different load profiles, so a single answer does not fit all of Walton.
Bills in Walton run wide. The smaller Walton Road 5-marla homes have summer bills of PKR 25,000 to PKR 40,000. The Lalazar bungalows can run PKR 80,000 to PKR 130,000. The ex-airfield new builds, where construction is still finishing, will eventually carry similar loads to Phase 6 DHA.
The airfield restriction — does it still apply?
Until the Walton Airfield was active, residential rooftops within a certain radius had height restrictions on any rooftop structure that could interfere with flight paths. That restriction is no longer enforced after the airfield decommissioning, but the local Cantonment Board sometimes still asks for a height check on new mounting structures over 8 feet from the parapet. In practice this is rarely a problem because solar mounting structures sit 5 to 7 feet above the parapet on flat roofs, well under the threshold.
For homes within the Cantonment boundary, the routine NOC from the local Cantonment Board office still applies. That is a 7 to 14 day process and costs under PKR 5,000. Homes outside the Cantonment boundary on Walton Road do not need this approval.
Sizing for typical Walton homes
Walton Road residential — 5 and 10 marla
Standard middle-income housing, similar to Faisal Town in load. A 5-marla family of five with 3 ACs has a summer bill of PKR 35,000 to PKR 55,000. The right size is 5 to 7 kW. Cost: PKR 850,000 to PKR 1,200,000.
Walton Cantt blocks — Askari side
The Askari blocks within Walton Cantt are mostly apartment towers where individual residents cannot install rooftop solar (common property). The standalone bungalows in the older Walton Cantt sectors are 1-kanal or larger and carry heavy loads, 6 to 8 ACs, summer bills PKR 90,000 to PKR 140,000. A 10 to 12 kW hybrid is the right size. Cost: PKR 1,800,000 to PKR 2,400,000.
Lalazar and Cavalry-side colonies
1-kanal bungalows with older infrastructure. Loads similar to Cantt main, often with diesel generators that need to coexist with the inverter. Summer bills PKR 90,000 to PKR 150,000. A 10 to 15 kW hybrid with 10 kWh battery is typical. Cost: PKR 1,900,000 to PKR 3,000,000.
Ex-airfield new builds
Plot sizes vary from 5-marla to 2-kanal. The houses being built in 2025-26 are typically energy-efficient (insulation, inverter ACs, LED throughout) but the families that buy them want a lot of comfort. The right approach is to design for projected 2027 load, not 2026 occupancy. A 10 marla new build usually gets a 10 kW system with provision for adding 3 more kW in year 2 or 3.
A real BoQ — 7 kW on-grid, Walton Road, March 2026
Homeowner: 5-marla double-storey, family of six, four ACs (mix of inverter and non-inverter), summer bill peaked PKR 52,000 in July 2025.
| Item | Detail | PKR |
|---|---|---|
| Panels | 12 × 580W Longi bifacial | 406,000 |
| Inverter | 7 kW Solis on-grid, NEPRA-approved | 265,000 |
| Mounting | Galvanised L2 + L3 structure, 6 ft elevation | 125,000 |
| Cable + protection | 4 sqmm DC, 10 sqmm AC, SPDs, breakers | 82,000 |
| Net metering paperwork | LESCO file + drawings | 40,000 |
| Labour, commissioning | 2-day install | 70,000 |
| Total | 988,000 |
Bill after commissioning, June 2026: PKR 8,200. Three out of four ACs run on solar during the day, and the morning routine consumption (geyser-less hot water from rooftop tank in summer, pump, fridge) is fully covered.

The bigger Walton Cantt and Lalazar bungalows almost always have a 10 to 20 kVA diesel generator with an auto-changeover. When solar is added, the wiring needs to be redone so the generator changeover and the hybrid inverter do not fight each other. The standard sequence is: grid > inverter > house. When grid fails, the inverter draws from battery and solar. When battery falls below 20 percent and the home demand stays high, the generator kicks in, the inverter detects the generator AC frequency, and shuts down its battery output to let the generator run the house. This requires a manual changeover switch or an inverter that supports AC sense input.
The wiring is straightforward but it is the most common source of post-install service calls in this part of Lahore. The team has to spend an extra hour on day one mapping the existing wiring before drawing the new layout. Skipping this leads to the inverter throwing errors every time the generator runs.
Dust and panel cleaning on Walton roofs
Walton Road has more roadside dust than the inner Cantt blocks because of the construction activity around the ex-airfield. Panels accumulate dust faster here. A monthly cleaning schedule is the right answer. On a 7 kW system, monthly cleaning costs about PKR 4,500 per visit, or PKR 38,000 for an annual contract that includes minor electrical check-ups. The lost output from skipping cleaning is around 8 to 12 percent annual, which is more than the cleaning cost.
LESCO net metering for Walton
Walton addresses are served by the LESCO Cantt Sub-Division. The application process and timelines are the same as other Cantt-area addresses, 7 to 10 weeks total. The Cantt feeders have generally had healthy net metering capacity through 2024 and 2025, with applications going through smoothly. The 2026 net metering tariff applies, with export at around PKR 11 per unit and import at the full LESCO slab rate.

Service calls common in Walton
The most common service call from Walton homes is dust-related underperformance, especially in March-April (dust storm season) and October-November (haze). A panel that has not been cleaned for 2 months in Walton can produce 15 percent less than a clean panel next to it. Diagnosis is straightforward, the inverter app shows the affected string's voltage and current, and a soft brush clean restores performance the same day.
The second most common is generator integration errors after a homeowner has the generator serviced or the changeover replaced. The new changeover sometimes does not trip the inverter cleanly, and the inverter alarms. A 30-minute re-tuning of the inverter settings usually fixes it.
Install logistics in Walton
Most Walton addresses have easy crane access. The Cantt-side bungalows in older sectors have wider 30 ft streets and the standard delivery truck and crane work fine. The Lalazar inner streets are narrower (20 to 24 ft) and sometimes need a smaller crane. A 7 kW Walton install is a 2-day job, a 10 kW is 3 days, a 15 kW hybrid with battery is 4 to 5 days including commissioning.
