Rejection is usually an objection
Very few Lahore net metering files are killed outright. What happens is an objection: a marked-up single line diagram, a note on the file, a phone call from the sub-division asking for one more paper. The file stops moving and nobody tells you. Weeks later somebody finally visits the office and discovers the objection was raised on day nine.
So the practical skill is not avoiding rejection. It is knowing what gets objected to, fixing it inside a week, and checking the file status against your diary number every seven days. Here is the ranked list from our own applications.
1. System size above the sanctioned load
This is the big one, and it accounts for more stalled Lahore files than every other cause combined. Your connection carries a sanctioned load in kW. Your inverter AC capacity cannot exceed it. A 10 kW inverter on a 4 kW sanction gets refused on the first desk it touches.
The fix. File a load enhancement at your sub-division before the net metering application, not after. Expect three to five weeks and a per kW security deposit. Older colonies suffer most. Streets off Ferozepur Road, parts of Mughalpura, and much of the old Cantt housing carry 2 to 3 kW sanctions from decades ago, while Bahria Town and DHA plots usually come with headroom.
2. Consumer name does not match the CNIC
LESCO signs the agreement with the recorded consumer. If the bill says your late grandfather and the CNIC says you, the counter stops.
The fix. Transfer the connection, which takes two to three weeks and needs the succession or transfer documents, or produce a registered power of attorney. Tenants have the hardest version of this problem because the landlord has to sign a long term agreement. 3. Inverter or panel not on the approved list
Equipment has to appear on the AEDB approved list, and the datasheet you attach has to match the model actually installed. Cheap imports without listings are the trap. We have watched a customer in Johar Town replace an entire inverter after the fact because the seller on Hall Road had promised it was listed and it was not.

4. Earth resistance out of range
At inspection the team measures earth pit resistance with their own tester. Lahore's soil varies enormously across the city. Sandy fill in newer societies and the raised plots in parts of DHA read high, and a single shallow pit with a plain rod will not pass.
The fix. Dig properly. A pit at least eight feet deep, copper or copper-bonded electrode, alternating layers of salt and charcoal, and a watering pipe left in place. On difficult soil, two pits bonded together. Redigging after a failed inspection costs a fresh visit and about ten days.

The inspecting officer opens your main breaker and watches whether the inverter shuts down within the required time. A grid-tied inverter that keeps pushing power into a dead line is a hazard to the lineman working on your street, which is exactly why this test exists and why nobody negotiates on it.
The fix. Only fit inverters with proper grid protection and the correct country settings selected during commissioning. This is genuinely a commissioning error as often as a hardware one. An installer who leaves the inverter on default factory settings for another country will fail this test with perfectly good hardware. 6. Arrears, detection cases, or a disputed bill
The commercial wing checks your account before the metering wing does anything. Any outstanding amount, any open detection notice, any pending meter dispute, and the file waits.
The fix. Clear it completely and attach the paid receipt. If there is a genuine dispute, resolve it first through the complaint process rather than hoping the net metering application will move around it. It will not.
7. Single line diagram problems
Objections we see written on returned diagrams, roughly in order of frequency:
- No lockable AC isolator shown for utility access
- Missing or undersized surge protection on the AC side
- Breaker ratings that do not match the inverter output current
- No stamp or licence number from the contractor
- String configuration that puts the array voltage outside the inverter MPPT window
- Battery and changeover arrangement drawn in a way that would allow backfeed during an outage
The fix. Have the diagram drawn by someone who has had one approved before. That last point matters for every hybrid battery system, because the backup circuit has to be shown clearly separated from the grid-connected side.
8. Installed hardware does not match the declaration
The team counts panels and reads the inverter nameplate. If the application says 18 panels of 585W and there are 20 on the roof, the file is corrected downward or held. This happens honestly sometimes, when an installer adds two panels after the paperwork went in.
The fix. Freeze the design before filing. Any change after submission means an amended application. If you think you might expand later, size the sanction and the meter for the future capacity now, as explained in net metering meter cost in Lahore.
How long each fix actually takes

Read that table as sequential, not parallel. Two objections raised together rarely overlap, because the second is usually only checked after the first is closed. A file with a load sanction problem and a failed earth test is realistically six to eight weeks behind a clean one.
What to do the day an objection letter arrives
Note the diary number and the date on the letter, because the reply has to reference both. Photograph the letter before it leaves your hands. Then ask the dealing clerk which desk raised the objection, the commercial wing or the technical wing, since the reply goes back to that desk and not to the front counter. Replies handed in without a covering letter tend to get separated from the original file.
Answer every point in the letter, even the ones you think are wrong, and attach a fresh copy of any paper you are correcting rather than asking them to look at the earlier submission. If you disagree with a technical objection, ask for it in writing with the clause referenced. That single request settles most disputed earth resistance and inverter listing objections within a week, because a clause has to exist before it can be quoted.
An honest word about timelines
Nobody, including us, can promise a net metering approval date. Two identical files submitted the same week to different Lahore sub-divisions can finish four weeks apart, and the variable is which desk they land on. Any company quoting you a guaranteed approval date is selling confidence they do not have.
What can be promised is a file with nothing wrong in it, objections answered within days rather than weeks, and someone physically walking to the office instead of phoning. Before you apply at all
Check your sanctioned load, check the name on the bill, check the account is clear, and size the system against your real consumption using the calculator. Then read the step by step process and the document checklist.
