Why Paragon City went solar faster than its neighbours
Drive down the main boulevard off Barki Road and count rooftops. Two years ago a solar array in Paragon City was unusual. Now whole blocks in the Executive and Imperial sectors have them. Three ordinary reasons explain it, none of them dramatic.
The housing stock is new. Most homes here were built after 2015, which means the electrical work is modern, the distribution boards are sane, and the roofs are flat reinforced concrete with clean parapets. Retrofitting solar onto that is fast and cheap compared with a 1990s house in an older society.
Second, the plot mix is uniform. A large share of Paragon City is 10 marla, which means one system size fits a lot of houses, so pricing here is predictable rather than bespoke. Third, and this is the real driver, bills. A 10-marla Paragon house with three ACs was paying PKR 20,000 a month in summer five years ago. In 2026 the same consumption at PKR 48 to 65 per unit crosses PKR 55,000. That is what moves people, not brochures.
The standard Paragon City rooftop
The typical 10-marla house here gives 500 to 700 square feet of usable flat roof after subtracting the stair mumty, the overhead tank platform, and the parapet shadow band. That comfortably takes 8 kW of 585W panels on standard mounting at PKR 7,000 per kW. Pushing to 10 kW usually means either 645W bifacial modules to reduce panel count, or a raised structure at PKR 12,000 per kW that spans over the tank.
The quirk worth naming is the boundary wall height. Paragon plots sit close together, and where a neighbour has built a full second storey on the south or southwest side, the winter afternoon shadow crosses the roof. In December the sun is low enough that a wall twelve feet above your slab throws shade twenty feet across at 3 pm. Any installer who does not walk the roof at survey and check that is guessing.
Build it during construction if you can
Paragon City still has plots under construction, and this is the cheapest possible moment to plan solar.
- Cast a 20 mm conduit from roof to the intended inverter wall while the slab is being poured. Later, that same DC run means surface trunking down a finished wall.
- Leave a ventilated 4 by 3 foot wall space near the main DB for the inverter, with a spare 6 mm earth wire already terminated.
- Provide a shaded, ventilated floor slot for a battery cabinet. A 5 kWh lithium unit needs roughly two square feet and hates direct sun.
- Have the mason cast four structure base pads into the roof slab rather than drilling anchors into finished waterproofing afterwards.
Doing all four during construction costs perhaps PKR 25,000 in extra material and labour. Doing them later costs three times that and never looks as tidy. Full scope of a fresh install is on the installation service page.

Barki Road side feeders are decent but not immune. Summer outages here typically run one to three hours in stretches, often in the late evening when the transformer is loaded. That is exactly when a battery earns its keep, and exactly when the panels contribute nothing.
A 5 kWh lithium pack at PKR 285,000 runs fans, lights, fridge and a router through the night, with roughly two hours of one inverter AC if the rest of the house is quiet. A 2.5 kWh pack at PKR 130,000 to PKR 145,000 is the minimum that makes sense, and it is a lights-and-fans solution only. Pylontech 3.5 kWh at PKR 195,000 sits neatly in between.
Tubular 200Ah batteries at PKR 48,000 to PKR 52,000 each still get sold in this area on price. Four of them cost around PKR 200,000 and give roughly the same usable energy as one 5 kWh lithium pack, with a shorter life and monthly water topping. It is a defensible choice for a strict budget and a poor one for anyone planning to stay in the house ten years. Getting the LESCO file through from Paragon City
Paragon City sits on the LESCO network and files from here move at normal speed. The order of operations that works.
- Confirm the bill is in the applicant's name and there are no arrears. This kills more files than anything else.
- Check sanctioned load against proposed inverter capacity. A 10 kW inverter needs at least 10 kW sanctioned. If not, apply for load enhancement first and add three to five weeks.
- Submit the net metering application with equipment details, CNIC, bill copy and the installer's documentation.
- Demand notice, inspection, then bi-directional meter installation.
Six to ten weeks end to end is realistic. The system runs and saves from commissioning day regardless, so nobody should sit in the dark waiting for a meter. The caveat for new-build Paragon owners
Here is the part that gets glossed over. A newly built house has a load that will grow. Families move in with two ACs and add two more within three years. A top floor gets built. A tube well pump appears. Sizing a 5 kW system to today's bill in a house that will consume 60 percent more by 2029 leads to an inverter swap, which is the most expensive kind of upgrade because the old one usually resells at half price.
The cheap insurance is to fit a 10 kW hybrid inverter at PKR 295,000 even if only 6 kW of panels goes up initially. Panels can be added to a string later for the price of panels and structure. An undersized inverter cannot. That advice costs a buyer more today and saves them a lot in year four.

December and January are the honest reality check. Lahore smog cuts output by a third and no equipment fixes it. Cleaning helps at the margin, which is why panel cleaning matters more here than in cities with clearer winters.
